Battenkill River Fishing Report (Vermont)

THE BASICS

  • Type: Trout (wild brook and brown)
  • Season: 2nd Sat. in April to Oct. 31

The Vermont section of the Battenkill offers technical wild brown and brook trout fishing in an intimate setting. From the NY border this river remains small, with well-educated fish, and offers superb fishing all year long. There is little cover so anglers must be prepared for spooky fish and stealthy approaches, and fish tend to congregate near the banks. Access can be challenging in many parts, with the river flanked by private property for many stretches. For wild fish in cool clear water, however, it's tough to beat the Battenkill.
