Westfield River

Westfield River

  • Type: Trout
  • Season: Year round (Jan 1 - Dec 31)

Like the Deerfield, its neighbor to the North, the Westfield runs down out of the Berkshires and makes its way to the mainstem of the Connecticut river. The upper sections are flanked by beautiful state forests, and with plenty of good access along route 9, and then turns south, passing 143 before proceeding into the beautiful Chesterfield Gorge, a local geological highlight. The freestone water here offers up quality trout fishing, particularly in the early and late season, though even in the heat of the summer anglers can find fish in deeper pools, and some well-shaded tributaries. With the exception of the Gorge and the stretch just downstream, which requires decent hike in, the rest of the Westfield boasts relatively easy stream access.
