The soft hackle wet fly is a traditional fly fishing pattern designed to imitate emerging insects, drowned adults, or struggling pupae just beneath the water's surface. Unlike dry flies that use stiff rooster hackle for buoyancy, soft hackles utilize supple feathers from game birds like partridge, grouse, or starlings. These feathers undulate and "kick" in the current, creating a lifelike movement that triggers aggressive strikes from trout.
