Montauk proudly proclaims itself as the "Sportfishing Capital of the World" and while there are other plenty of other places that would throw their hats in that ring, it is certainly one of the best fishing locations on the east coast. The epic "Fall Run" is not to be missed, with anglers having great opportunities to catch striped bass and get into schools of albacore, bluefish, bonito, and weakfish. While anglers can catch fish from the shore -- surfcasting is something of a regional passion here -- a boat makes getting into fish that much easier, and come fall, the harbor will be humming with charters aiming to do just that.
