Here’s some updated river information for the Compleat Angler community: In general, all rivers were high from the last couple of days of rain, but are beginning to fall nicely. All Connecticut rivers have been stocked, with good holdover fish populations as well. Fishing has been very good.
Farmington River at Riverton: 174 cfs and 37 degrees; Below the Still River, the flow is 446 cfs through the TMA. Reports of Hendricksons, Blue Quills, Olives, brown and black Stoneflies and winter Caddis. Nymphing is effective with Prince, Pheasant Tails, Stoneflies always good bets.
Housatonic River at Cornwall: Currently 2300 CFS at 39 degrees. With the high water, big Stonefly nymphs, scuds and Prince nymphs are very effective.
Mill River in Fairfield: Currently 29 cfs. Small brown and black Stonefly dries, and small nymphs, such as Copper Johns, Flashbacks, and Princes are effective.
Delaware River System (Catskills, NY): For all our Catskill Junkies: Main Stem: 5390 cfs at Lordville at 38 degrees; East Branch: 2100 cfs at Fishes Eddy at 38 degrees; West Branch: 924 cfrs at Hale Eddy at 38 degrees. Currently, best wading is in the upper West Branch and upper East Branch. Best fly bets: small brown and black Stoneflies, Blue Quills, Quill Gordons, Caddis, along with nymphs such as Stonefly, Caddis, and Pheasant Tails. Also, while water is high, streamers fished low and slow can be very effective.
As always, we’re here in the shop to answer your questions and supply your angling needs!
